Lovingly created by the Moreira da Silva family, who settled here in the 1990s with no electricity and a house that was just about habitable, Herdade da Matinha has since grown into one of the most beautiful countryside hotels in Portugal.
Alfredo’s artistic vision is noticeable in every corner, with colourful paintings, eclectic interiors, patterned cushions, ceramics, retro lamps, and intriguing sculptures and objects. Matinha features 35 rooms spread across four distinct areas: the Old House, the Family Farmhouse, the Rose Club (an adults-only space), and the Surf Lodge.
Those who want to walk the Rota Vicentina could not be better placed, as the 340km nature route runs by the doorstep of Herdade da Matinha.

Take a walk around Herdade da Matinha, curl up with a good book in one of its cosy nooks, and end the evening with a glass of wine by the outdoor fireplace.
Explore the spectacular wild beaches of the Alentejo Coast, considered a haven for surfers, and if you're feeling adventurous take a surf lesson. Don’t miss Malhão Beach (17km away), known for its dramatic cliffs and expansive stretches of sand.
While Matinha’s own horses have retired and now roam freely, horse riding experiences with professional guides, are available through local partners.
For walkers and cyclists, the Rota Vicentina—a network of trails totalling over 450 km—passes right by the estate. By Car

There are daily bus services from Lisbon and Lagos to Vila Nova de Milfontes. From there, a 20-minute taxi ride will get you to Herdade da Matinha.
