BODE Country House
BODE Country House is a stylish rural boutique hotel nestled in the foothills of the historic Portuguese village of Monsanto.
We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast at Vermelho. Highlights included the array of Portuguese and French pastries that were brought to your table and the perfectly cooked a-la-carte eggs. Breakfast was delicious but also beautifully arranged, featuring tableware from Vida Dura.
Elisabeth Lincot's installation, Lagrima de Loros, graces an exterior hearth at Vermelho with glazed and colourful ceramic bird heads.
BODE Country House is a boutique hotel set within a 150-year-old agricultural estate, formerly an olive and wine press, which has been lovingly transformed by Stefano and Catarina into a stylish countryside haven.
The design philosophy of BODE Country House is inspired by "Wabi-Sabi," a Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in imperfection, which is reflected throughout the interiors, characterised by minimalist yet warm decor, high ceilings, and curated furnishings.
BODE offers eight rooms, plus a two-bedroom cottage, all offering views of the surrounding countryside and mountains. The property spans five hectares, and the outdoor spaces are designed to enhance your connection with nature.
The infinity pool is nestled among granite boulders, and activities include nature walks, bird watching, and olive harvesting. The on-site Bistro serves a Mediterranean-inspired menu, featuring local, seasonal produce.

BODE Country House is a boutique hotel located near the ancient village of Monsanto.
BODE is surrounded by the region’s unique landscape, where houses are carved between massive granite boulders. Located in the Beira Baixa region of Portugal, close to the Spanish border, Monsanto sits on the slope of a steep hill, offering sweeping views over the surrounding valley.
Often referred to as 'the most Portuguese village,' Monsanto provides a historical atmosphere with its narrow, cobblestone streets, ancient stone houses, and panoramic views across the countryside.
