Moinho da Areia
Moinho da Areia is a boutique beachside guesthouse located on Monte Verde Beach on the island of São Miguel in the Azores.
We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast at Vermelho. Highlights included the array of Portuguese and French pastries that were brought to your table and the perfectly cooked a-la-carte eggs. Breakfast was delicious but also beautifully arranged, featuring tableware from Vida Dura.
Elisabeth Lincot's installation, Lagrima de Loros, graces an exterior hearth at Vermelho with glazed and colourful ceramic bird heads.
Created by siblings Inês and João, Moinho da Areia is a boutique guesthouse in São Miguel, originally built as a watermill in 1867.
Moinho da Areia has been thoughtfully transformed into a charming small hotel with five unique suites. Perched directly on Monte Verde Beach, its interiors incorporate two of its historic millstones, exclusive art pieces curated by Joana Subtil, and handcrafted decor created in collaboration with local artisans and artists.
Each morning, guests are treated to a locally-inspired breakfast featuring both buffet and à la carte selections with Azorean ingredients. Other highlights include a shared living area with a library of books on Azorean culture and history, complimentary toiletries made with 99% natural ingredients, and personalised assistance with surfboard rentals and lessons.
