Torel Quinta da Vacaria
Torel Quinta da Vacaria is a 33-room five-star boutique hotel on one of the Douro Valley's oldest wine estates.
We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast at Vermelho. Highlights included the array of Portuguese and French pastries that were brought to your table and the perfectly cooked a-la-carte eggs. Breakfast was delicious but also beautifully arranged, featuring tableware from Vida Dura.
Elisabeth Lincot's installation, Lagrima de Loros, graces an exterior hearth at Vermelho with glazed and colourful ceramic bird heads.
Torel Quinta da Vacaria is a five-star boutique hotel on one of the Douro Valley's oldest wine estates, dating back to 1616, surrounded by 60 hectares of vineyards with views of the Douro River.
Designed by renowned interior designer Joana Astolfi, Torel Quinta da Vacaria features 33 uniquely styled rooms and suites, each named after themes inspired by nature and the Douro region. Inside, you’ll find custom-designed furniture by Studio Astolfi, crafted from oak, walnut wood, straw, and rich fabrics. The décor blends pieces from Portuguese artisans with international brands like Audo Copenhagen, HAY, &Tradition, Vitra, and Ferm Living.
The hotel offers two dining options: Schistó (plan to be open by end of the year), a fine dining restaurant with a 10-course menu led by Michelin-starred chef Vitor Matos, and 16Legoas, a casual spot highlighting regional dishes. There are also two bars, including Barbus, located by the infinity pool with stunning views. For those seeking relaxation, the 1,000-square-metre Calla Silent Spa provides vinotherapy treatments, a heated indoor pool, sauna, and hammam, making it one of the largest spas in the region.
Surrounded by the UNESCO-listed Alto Douro wine region, Torel Quinta da Vacaria offers a range of experiences, from wine tastings at the estate’s winery to boat tours on the Douro River and nature walks through the scenic vineyards.
