TheVagar is a boutique guesthouse with six bedrooms, nestled at the foot of Serra da Estrela, Portugal's highest mountain range.
We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast at Vermelho. Highlights included the array of Portuguese and French pastries that were brought to your table and the perfectly cooked a-la-carte eggs. Breakfast was delicious but also beautifully arranged, featuring tableware from Vida Dura.
Elisabeth Lincot's installation, Lagrima de Loros, graces an exterior hearth at Vermelho with glazed and colourful ceramic bird heads.

This eco-retreat is designed to capture the essence of Serra da Estrela through its sounds, scenery, colours, and materials. TheVagar’s six minimalist suites are equipped with cosy fireplaces, fine Portuguese linen sheets, artisan bathroom amenities and indulgent bathtubs.
Beyond the comfort of the suites, TheVagar Countryhouse extends its invitation to tranquillity through an infinity pool, a traditional wood-fired hot tub, and serene escapes within the guesthouse's expansive 245 hectares of pristine natural surroundings. For the adventurous, TheVagar provides jeep tours, 15 kilometres of exclusive walking trails, and access to a further 300 kilometres of paths for exploration.
