Some of which we have already visited, we will be bringing you the full reports in the new year.
We tend to know more or less which are the hotels that we want to visit next, however it doesn’t depend only on the hotel itself but also on the region. In 2019 we want to bring you more hotels from mainland Portugal as well as our amazing islands - Madeira and Azores.
So here are the top 10 boutique hotels in Portugal that we are very much looking forward to visiting next, in no specific order:
Mo House
Pretty guesthouse located in the historical centre of Porto with a stunning view of the river Douro. Bedrooms feature kitchenettes, but a lovely breakfast is also served.
Casa C’Alma
A five-bedroom boutique guesthouse in Lisbon, offering minimalist Scandi-style decor. Casa C’Alma is located in Misericordia (near the lively Bairro Alto neighbourhood), and it’s a great choice for travellers interested in an authentic local experience.
Rosa Et Al Townhouse
Located in the “street of the art galleries” (Miguel Bombarda) in Porto, this seven-bedroom traditional townhouse offers original architecture alongside sleek mid-century furniture and a lovely garden.
Casas Caiadas
Old water mills have been turned into a gorgeous trio of whitewashed cottages in the heart of the Alentejo, near the small village of Sabugueiro and the historical town of Évora.
Quinta São Bernardo
Gorgeous Winery & Farmhouse in Mesão Frio in the Douro offering both private pool villas and luxury suites. It looks amazing, we can’t wait to visit.
Casa de São Lourenço
A five-star boutique spa hotel set in Manteigas, amongst Portugal’s highest mountains, Serra da Estrela. All rooms offer panoramic views and 100% Portuguese design.
Pink House Azores
We love the look of this restored old barn turned into design boutique accommodation, a seven minute drive from the historical centre of São Miguel, in the Azores. There’s a seasonal outdoor pool.
Valverde Hotel
A five-star boutique hotel in Lisbon, located in upscale Avenida da Liberdade. Valverde Hotel offers elegant rooms, decorated in lovely warm colours. There is an inviting patio and small swimming pool.
Santa Clara 1728
A serene small boutique hotel in Lisbon, set in a refurbished 18th century building offering six spacious rooms in the charming Alfama neighbourhood.
Casas na Areia
Four fully equipped cottages with a special twist: white sand instead of traditional floors. These stunning huts are integrated on the nature reserve of river Sado in Comporta, home to a great variety of wildlife.
A Bela Aurora
A spacious, light-filled guesthouse in Porto with a peaceful garden. There are five suites decorated with handcrafted furniture and design pieces. Located in the residential art district, a ten-minute walk from the heart of the city. (unfortunately this guesthouse closed its doors in 2020)
